What do you do when you can't sleep? Well, you buy a greenscreen and mess around with it ofcourse! At least, that's what I do.
Somehow it seems I still live in pacific time. I can't wake up in the morning, fall asleep in the afternoon, and I'm finally waking up when everyone else goes to bed. Suddenly I get tons of ideas, and I just have to do something with them. There's always a sketchbook and a notebook next to my bed. But my computer isn't that far away either, so I usually tend to hang behind it most of the night. (and ofcourse, that doesn't help the sleeping problems either)
My greatest addiction right now is film. Not just watching films, but usually creating them. Somehow it's terribly addicting for me. To decide camera points, movement, music, effects... Just everything... Somehow film combines everything that interests and fascinates me. You create a moving image, and match it with sound. It's a complete experience. With theater it's the same, but you need so much to create the same kind of image you would be able to recreate with your computer. In theater, it's usually not even about the image, but about the actor, and some deep philosophical story. Yes- I care about dept, and yes- I'm a thinker myself. But image + sound beats an unending monologue that I can't really figure out. In the Netherlands it's usually a monologue by an angry naked old guy. (that's what most theater plays out here seem to go about) It must be really, really deep and intellectual, I'm sure. But I couldn't care less. Just give me a film like 'Skycaptain and the world of tomorrow'. The story isn't that refreshing or spectacular, but it looks GREAT!
So last night, I pinned some green fabric to the wall, and tried to recreate a bit of the 'Skycaptain' images. No way I can do it well, but it kept me busy for a while~
